Print Printing is a minefield. Depending on the quantity and quality of material required there are many options ranging from one copy of a cost-effective four-page brochure printed digitally up to 250,000 48-page catalogues printed conventionally. Every printer charges a different price. This is because there they all have equipment geared to printing different sizes, quantities and number of colours. Also print prices can change regularly because of the price of the raw materials that the printer buys. This year paper has increased in price significantly; thus the overall cost of printing has increased. Preparation before submitting a print job is also important. Every printer has different film, plate and proofing requirements. So again, the costs vary from printer to printer when quoting on 'pre-print reprographics'. Finally, unless you choose a 'wet proof' or dry 'chromalin' proof there is never any guarantee that the finished job will be consistent with your original proof. So always get the best proof for the job, it may save you having to pay twice for the same job. The quality and cost viability of digital printing is becoming increasingly attractive and as there are no reprographics charges involved this method of printing will become more popular over the next two years.
